DescriptionEarl the Tomb Robber is an action-adventure video game developed and published by Pinhead Games. The story follows Earl, a broken man who isolates from the world by researching ancient cultures and taking on unsavory "excavation" jobs. While stealing an artifact, Earl becomes entangled with the cursed soul of a banished King and can only be freed by collecting all it's the scattered, mummified body parts. The game is presented through a third-person perspective. The game focuses on interactive narrative, exploration and environmental puzzle solving as it's key mechanics with a light focus on "cozy" combat.
The game is as much about exploring exotic locations and mysterious tombs as it is about exploring your own personality and discovering your true authentic self. As Earl learns to face his own insecurities, players are challenged do the same.? |

Ex-Telltale Dev to Develop Action/Adventure Game Rooted in Self Discovery
“Earl the Tomb Robber” explores a puzzle filled ‘Island of the Dead’ while plunging the depths of human psychology.
El Cerrito, CA -- February 17,2025 -- Independent developer Pinhead Games, run by Mark Darin (former Telltale Games Lead Designer/Writer/Creative Director), has announced that they are developing a new adventure game for PC to release in 2026.
Earl the Tomb Robber is a story-driven adventure set on a mysterious "Island of the Dead", full of rewarding exploration, challenging puzzles and cozy combat. After an ancient curse binds Earl to the ghost of a long deceased King, Earl must break into tombs and dig up the graves around the sacred island to recover the scattered mummified body parts of the cursed King.
This game is as much about exploring exotic locations and mysterious tombs as it is about exploring your own personality and discovering how to identify your true authentic self. As Earl learns to face his own insecurities, the player is challenged to do the same?
Mark Darin, founder of Pinhead Games explains: “Earl the Tomb Robber is what happens when a former professional game dev loses everything and goes rogue, solo developing a game conceived as “God of War meets Uncharted and has an Indie Pixar styled baby” (But on a much smaller budget!) For 15 years I was a professional Designer/Writer/Creative Director at Telltale Games, but my health took a turn for the worse and left me disabled and depressed.Things continued to go downhill from there. The truth of the matter is that I'm just some guy who is going through some shit in his life right now... just like everyone else. But I am fortunate enough to have the experience and ability to create video games, and I'm hoping that by addressing some of these issues in the game, I can get to understand myself better and maybe gain some insight into dealing with my issues in a healthy way. And if I'm SUPER lucky, maybe this dumb little game will help other people find their way too.”
